The information outlined in this article is effective as of the 1st March, 2023.
There is an existing nil tolerance on any stock delivered with an undisclosed disease.
Acknowledging that there are more complexities surrounding the transmission and impacts of disease amongst a consignment; further defining this allows for clarity in the dispute resolution process - particularly which animals may be permitted to be rejected which can be a point of contention in ongoing disputes.
AuctionsPlus have further defined three scenarios that outline the protections and responsibilities when issues around disease arise:
- Non-transmittable disease - only the impacted animals may be rejected.
For example: a cancered ear - Transmittable disease that MAY impact other animals - spread may be impacted by management post-arrival. Affected animals may be rejected, and if purchaser wants to reject more/all this must be negotiated.
For example: pink eye - Transmittable disease where if any % are showing symptoms - it is accepted that ALL will, or there is a significant risk that all have the underlying cause present. The entire consignment may be rejected.
For example: footrot
All claims relating to animal health and disease must be reported in writing within 48 hours of arrival of livestock to the buyers property.
